UAE Becomes First GCC Member on INTERPOL Chemical Security Committee

The UAE has become the first Gulf Cooperation Council country to join INTERPOL’s Steering Committee for the Global Congress on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats.

The Ministry of Interior is representing the UAE on the committee, which brings together experts from more than 2,000 organisations worldwide to combat chemical threats and enhance international preparedness. Established in 2022, the Steering Committee sets the strategic direction for the Global Congress and facilitates cross-sector and multinational collaboration among experts.

The latest meeting of the Steering Committee is underway in Abu Dhabi, with global experts and officials discussing cooperation, upcoming joint exercises and the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence into chemical security systems.

Discussions include how countries with limited resources can strengthen defences. Participants are addressing ways to prevent cyberattacks targeting chemical infrastructure. The meeting also focuses on improving coordination between industry, governments and law enforcement.
