UAE's National Day Celebrations to Be Named 'Eid Al Etihad'
This year's UAE National Day emphasizes unity and sustainable celebrations.
The UAE has officially designated a new name for its annual National Day celebrations: ‘Eid Al Etihad’. The Arabic word ‘Etihad’ translates to ‘Union’ in English, underscoring the significance of the Emirates’ unification on December 2nd, 1971.
This year, celebrations across the country will centre around the values of unity, heritage and strength with a grand show expected to feature the Rulers of the Emirates. While the location for this year’s main event has not yet been announced, designated ‘Eid Al Etihad zones’ across all seven Emirates will host activities to mark the occasion.
The UAE's National Day holidays - set for December 2nd and the 3rd - will extend to create a four-day weekend this year, allowing residents to celebrate over an extended period.
In a push towards sustainability, the 53rd National Day will encourage responsible celebration practices. Resources have been provided to government bodies, private companies, schools, and families to promote environmentally friendly activities. The UAE has made efforts to inspire sustainable participation, focusing on minimising waste, recycling, upcycling and reusing resources. Guides are also available to help repurpose decorations, supporting sustainability at home, work and school.
