The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has introduced a new service on their website to help citizens inquire about the availability of pharmaceutical products amidst Egypt’s current drug shortage. This service allows users to submit details about the medications they need, and the authority’s relevant department will respond to their queries.
Alongside the online form, citizens can also contact the EDA via the hotline 15301. All reports will be handled confidentially, ensuring the full protection of the inquirer's data. The service will be available 24/7, with communication officers assisting citizens in finding alternative medications.
In recent years, Egypt has experienced a significant shortage in drug supplies due to a currency crisis and economic downturn. Many essential medications have disappeared from pharmacies due to a lack of foreign currency needed for imports, while others have become prohibitively expensive due to supply shortages. Additionally, local manufacturers have struggled to meet the growing demand because of rising operational costs and a heavy dependence on imported components.
