GEM Hosts 'Family Weekend' Event on April 24th & 25th
Expect hands-on craft workshops, outdoor activities, and more – all set against the backdrop of ancient Egyptian history.
The Grand Egyptian Museum is opening its doors to something a little more intimate this spring, with the return of its family-focused festival, GEM Family Weekend.
Set for April 24th and 25th, the festival reimagines the museum grounds as a space where kids aren’t shushed into stillness, but invited to get stuck in. Think craft workshops, outdoor play and curated activities that translate thousands of years of history into something tactile, digestible, and, crucially, fun.
It’s part of a bigger shift in how GEM is opening itself up. Less “look but don’t touch,” more “here’s how this world connects to you.” By designing experiences specifically for younger visitors, the museum is rethinking accessibility in how stories are told and who gets to engage with them.
Kids under six get in free, while activity access comes through onsite tickets via TicketsMarche. The Main Galleries and Children’s Museum still sit on separate tickets, but for one weekend, the wider complex becomes a playground of sorts, equal parts educational and enjoyable.
