Uber Raises Fare Prices Across Egypt

Uber has announced that it is increasing its fares in Egypt, after fuel prices went up in the country.

This is the second price increase that Uber has implemented in three months, after the ride-hailing company raised fares in May.

The base fare for UberX journeys in Cairo went up from EGP 7.50 to EGP 8, while the price per kilometre increased from EGP 2.85 to EGP 3.05 - that’s approximately a 7% increase. The minimum cost of a journey has now been set at EGP 13, up from EGP 12.

For UberX journeys in Alexandria, the base fare climbed from EGP 7.25 to EGP 8, and the price per kilometre rose from EGP 2.60 to EGP 2.90.

Meanwhile, Uber Comfort base fares have risen from EGP 11 to EGP 11.80, with its price per kilometre rising from EGP 4 to EGP 4.30.

The price of petrol - the main culprit behind these price hikes - have gone up by a range of 2.8% to 3.8%. Who knows, though, maybe those new Egyptian electric cars they’re testing out will one day bring some much-needed relief to our wallets...
