80 Cloud Seeding Missions Carried Out to Boost UAE Rainfall in 2026
Operations target suitable cloud formations as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen water security in arid conditions.
Around 80 cloud seeding missions have been carried out across the UAE since the start of 2026, according to the National Centre of Meteorology, as part of efforts to enhance rainfall and support water reserves.
Officials said the operations focus on convective clouds, which are suitable for seeding due to their vertical development and upward air currents. Stratiform clouds are not targeted, and the movement of convective formations cannot be controlled, leading to variations in rainfall intensity across nearby areas.
The programme forms part of a broader national strategy aimed at increasing precipitation, replenishing groundwater and strengthening long-term water security in an arid environment where natural rainfall is limited.
Authorities noted that weather patterns vary across seasons and years, with recent conditions reflecting fluctuations in intensity rather than a fundamental shift. Light rainfall is expected in the coming days due to a shallow low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, with chances focused on western and eastern regions.
Experts said cloud seeding operations will continue throughout 2026 and beyond, depending on the availability of suitable cloud formations rather than a fixed seasonal timeline.
