Evening Shifts in Primary Schools to End by September 2027
Preparatory schools are due to follow in 2028, with secondary school evening sessions set to end by 2029.
Evening shifts in primary schools will be phased out by September 2027, with preparatory schools set to follow in 2028 and secondary schools in 2029.
Minister of Education Mohamed Abdel Latif outlined the timeline during Egypt Forum 2026, saying the ministry is also working to improve existing schools, particularly in areas with the greatest need.
The plan is intended to give students more time in school and make better use of the school day. Abdel Latif said the ministry wants schools to remain the main place where students acquire knowledge and skills, reducing reliance on outside educational sources.
He added that improving education quality will depend on regular attendance, adherence to the required number of school days and the use of continuous assessment and monitoring systems.
The phase-out will run alongside upgrades to school facilities as the ministry works to improve the learning environment while reducing dependence on multiple daily shifts.
