The Egyptian government has fully adopted an environmental, climate-friendly approach to sustainable development to guarantee the goals and objectives they’re striving towards.
The Egyptian government has stepped up its efforts to attract international support for the 2022 Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh this November.
To prove how excited we are for the monumental affair, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad launched the country’s first national dialogue on climate change – which took place at the South Sinai governorate – where she stressed on the importance of raising public awareness in order to help ease its associated negative impacts. She also revealed that the Egyptian government has fully adopted an environmental, climate-friendly approach to sustainable development to guarantee the goals and objectives they’re striving towards.
The Governor of South Sinai, Khaled Fouda, highlighted the massive efforts done to transform Sharm El Sheikh into a sustainable, green urban space. To contribute towards emissions reductions, Fouda unveiled that they’re ready to receive 300 electric transport buses in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, and are establishing a garage with the Ministry of Transport 100,000 square metres large with chargers for electric cars. They will also convert 800 taxis to work with natural gas, and introduce 150 new microbuses that will only work on gas or electricity.
Last but not least, the South Sinai governorate is now implementing a policy banning single-use plastic bags to lessen the environmental damage caused by plastic pollution.
