In this exclusive interview for SceneNowSaudi’s ‘Rolling: Red Sea Saudi’ series, Aixa Kay and Husam AlHarthi, two stars of the new Saudi drama ’Saify’, discuss how despite initial controversy, the film wanted to avoid a stereotypical depiction of religious sheikhs in films and instead present a character that was genuine, rounded, and complex.
Written and directed by Wael Abumansour and produced by Telfaz11 Studios, ‘Saify’ follows 40-year-old Saify Muhammed, a washed-up con artist drowning in debt, including what he owes his ex-wife. Desperate, he plots blackmail after discovering a compromising tape of the influential businessman Sheikh Asaad but to get to him he has to go through his religious advisor Sheikh Al Mahdi played by Alharthi.
