700,000 Passengers Used Haramain High-Speed Railway During Ramadan
Over 2,300 trips were operated on the rail line linking Makkah and Madinah during the first 20 days of the holy month.
More than 700,000 passengers travelled on the Haramain High-Speed Railway during the first 20 days of Ramadan, according to figures released by the Transport General Authority.
The total includes pilgrims and visitors travelling on the high-speed line from the start of the holy month through the 20th day. The journeys covered routes between Makkah and Madinah along the dedicated rail corridor.
During the period, the railway operated more than 2,300 trips. Authorities described the service as a transport option that helps reduce congestion on highways linking the two cities while enabling faster travel between key destinations.
The railway also supports passenger mobility during Ramadan, when travel between the holy cities increases as pilgrims and residents move for prayers and religious visits. The Haramain High-Speed Railway is one of Saudi Arabia’s major transport projects serving pilgrims throughout the year.
The line connects Makkah and Madinah through Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City.
The system operates on a 453-kilometre electrified railway with trains reaching speeds of up to 300 kilometres per hour, placing it among the fastest high-speed rail systems in the world.
