Electricity Prices Rise for High Usage Households & Businesses
Electricity tariffs will increase from April for higher residential tiers and all commercial users.
Electricity prices in Egypt will increase from April for higher residential consumption tiers and all commercial users, under new tariff adjustments announced by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Residential users consuming at and above the 2,000 kilowatt-hour monthly tier will face an average increase of 16%, while commercial tariffs across all consumption brackets will rise by around 20%.
The ministry said lower residential tiers will remain unchanged, noting that these categories represent around 40% of total subscribers, with 86% of users in this segment exempt from any increase. Officials said the adjustments are driven by ongoing pressures on global energy resources, describing the current situation as an unprecedented crisis affecting supply and costs.
The ministry added that increases were limited to higher consumption brackets, which it said reflect users with greater capacity to absorb higher costs, while maintaining price stability for lower-income households.
