Ain Sokhna Port Development Accelerates Amid Hormuz Disruptions
The expansion comes amid global disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz caused by the US-Israel war on Iran.
Development is accelerating at Ain Sokhna Port as disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz caused by the US-Israel war on Iran reshape regional trade routes.
A licence has been signed with the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone to handle loading, unloading, storage and general cargo and clean dry bulk operations at the port, enabling immediate use of existing infrastructure.
In parallel, a memorandum of understanding has been concluded to conduct studies for the construction, operation and development of a dedicated terminal for clean dry bulk and general cargo.
The strategy includes expanding maritime transport services, attracting investment and upgrading port infrastructure to accommodate growing trade volumes.
Disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have affected shipping routes and energy flows, with the waterway typically handling a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
Efforts are also focused on diversifying activities at Ain Sokhna through multi-cargo terminals to improve operational flexibility and competitiveness.
