Climathon Giza Invites Egyptians to Pitch Climate Change Solutions
With support from the European Union, Climathon Giza looks to raise awareness of climate change by challenging Egyptians to come up with innovative solutions to local climate challenges.
As a microcosm of Egypt’s diverse terrain and climates, Giza provides an ideal backdrop for the international ‘Climathon’ conference on November 26th and November 27th.
With support from the European Union, Climathon Giza looks to raise awareness of climate change by challenging Egyptians to come up with innovative solutions to local climate challenges. 15 teams of three to five young participants each will have the chance to propose their ideas in warm-up workshops, with access to mentoring from climate and entrepreneurship experts before the conference, to fine tune projects deemed as economically and environmentally viable. A running marathon, cycling event and afforestation campaign will take place before the conference to highlight Giza’s diverse topography.
The Climathon takes place in 150 countries simultaneously every year, allowing citizens from around the world to propose innovative ideas. Egyptians will have the opportunity to secure financial funding for their projects from the European Union, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and the Federation of the Egyptian Industries. The proposed pitches could cover anything from waste management to renewable energy, as long as it mitigates the impact of climate change.
A pre-event will be held for Climathon Egypt on October 27th and October 28th. To sign up, visit their Facebook page at f/ClimathonGiza.
