Farhet Masr Initiative Offers Marriage Support for Low-Income Couples
The national initiative provides in-kind support and family preparation services to help young couples cover the basic costs of marriage.
The Farhet Masr initiative has been launched to support the marriage of young men and women from families most in need by providing essential items to furnish the marital home.
The programme is designed to reduce financial pressure at the start of married life and support family stability through material and social assistance.
The initiative is open to young people from families classified as most in need, including beneficiaries of the Takaful and Karama cash support programme, residents or graduates of care homes or alternative family arrangements, and persons with disabilities who are able to form a family.
Eligibility conditions require that applicants have completed a marriage contract or a “nisf iklil” ceremony within the past year, that the marriage is the first for both parties, that neither spouse has previously received similar in-kind marriage support from the ministry or other entities, and that both are Egyptian nationals who meet the legal age requirements for marriage.
An electronic platform has been introduced to manage applications and ensure transparency. Registrations are accepted year-round through the official website, allowing prospective couples to submit their details and track their applications digitally.
Alongside in-kind support, the initiative includes psychological and social preparation programmes aimed at helping couples build healthy family relationships and manage potential disputes.
These services are delivered through the Mawadda programme for those about to marry, with continued family counselling available after marriage.
