Octane Launches Egypt’s First Digital Toll Payment System for Trucks

Egyptian fleet payments platform Octane has launched O-Tolls, the country’s first digital toll and weighbridge payment service for trucks, in cooperation with the National Company for Road Construction, Development, and Management. The service enables light, medium, and heavy trucks to pass through more than 500 toll gates and weighbridges on national roads using near field communication (NFC) technology.

The system allows trucks to pay tolls electronically without cash, reducing delays at gates and limiting reliance on paper-based settlements. NFC is a short-range wireless technology that allows devices to exchange data when placed a few centimetres apart, enabling fast and secure transactions at toll points.

Octane said the service targets Egypt’s logistics and transport sector, which remains heavily cash-dependent. According to the company, toll payments account for between 10% and 15% of operating expenses for logistics and distribution firms, making digitisation an important tool for improving financial oversight. O-Tolls enables companies to track toll expenses in real time, supporting cost control, fleet management, and financial planning, while also reducing fraud risks and driver waiting times.
