Over One Million Native Seedlings Produced for AlUla Projects

More than one million native seedlings have been produced for AlUla through the AlUla Native Plant Nursery and Seedbank, as part of ongoing efforts to integrate local biodiversity across the destination.

According to the Royal Commission for AlUla, over 140,000 native plants have already been deployed across projects outside nature reserves, including tourism developments, heritage sites and visitor infrastructure.

Planting initiatives have been implemented at key locations such as Hegra, Dadan and AlUla Old Town, alongside public spaces and outdoor environments. More than 650,000 plants have also been distributed to support over 70 environmental projects.

The programme forms part of a broader strategy to rehabilitate 65,000 hectares of degraded land by 2030 and supports rewilding efforts involving species such as the Arabian leopard, Arabian oryx and red-necked ostrich.

The nursery currently cultivates around 100 native and heritage plant species, with more than 500,000 seedlings planted in Sharaan National Park, where survival rates exceed 90%. Protected areas in AlUla span approximately 12,160 square kilometres, with 1,742 animals reintroduced into natural reserves as part of conservation programmes.

During a visit in February 2026, Prince William planted an acacia tree in Sharaan National Park, contributing to the growing number of native saplings in the area.

Officials said the initiative is designed to embed native biodiversity into tourism and infrastructure development, supporting ecological restoration while reinforcing the long-term sustainability of AlUla as a destination.
