Saudi Arabia Unveils VR Historical Tours in the Metaverse
The world's first ‘Phygital’ metaverse, this initiative by Saudi’s Ministry of Culture transcends geographical boundaries.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture is taking a step forward in cultural preservation and accessibility with the launch of immersive virtual reality tours of its historical sites within the metaverse.
Supported by the Generative Media Intelligence (GMI) artificial intelligence system, the world's first ‘Phygital’ metaverse will enable people around the world to explore historical sites in a more immersive way, interacting with virtual environments and objects. Users can also expect to get a virtual front row seat at streamed events like the commencement Symphony Concert for Saudi Founding Day, and cultural attractions such as the History Walk. In a collaboration with droppGroup and droppPhygital, the Ministry of Culture is leveraging the capabilities of Mobile XR and Hyperledger Fabric 2.5 blockchain technology to reach a wider audience, engaging younger generations as well as individuals who cannot physically travel to the kingdom.
By capturing these sites in VR, Saudi Arabia aims to preserve their stories and significance for future generations, ensuring their legacy lives on even as physical structures age or change over time.
