Saudi Researchers Have Come Up With a New Way to ID Palm Tree Species
The 'DPXception system' can tell the difference between different kinds of palm trees just by looking at a picture of it.
Researchers at King Saud University in Riyadh have come up with a new, revolutionary way to identify palm tree species with just an image and a lot of smart technology.
According to the team's article published in Frontiers in Plant Science journal, the 'DPXception system' can tell the difference between different kinds of palm trees just by looking at a picture of it, without the need for additional information.
Before now, expensive genetic fingerprinting or checking the tree's fruits, which were only available seasonally, were some of the few ways to reliably identify palm trees.
The research is part of a larger plan to identify other important aspects of palm trees, such as the kind of pests that damage them. The research team is also developing apps using the DPXception system for farmers and investors around the world.
