This British Farmer Made a Gigantic Maze of Tutankhamun’s Face
The North Yorkshire maze was made to celebrate 100 years since the discovery of the boy king’s tomb.
The fascination with the people, places, and practices of ancient Egypt has kept the world captivated for centuries, but this British farmer managed to pay tribute to Tutenkhamun in a way we’re 99% sure no-one has before.
To commemorate the centenary of the discovery of the ancient Pharoah’s tomb, English farmer Tom Pearcy cut over 5 km of pathways to create a giant maze depicting the head of Tutenkhamun across a 15-acre maize field in North Yorkshire. The 8th Earl of Carnarvon - whose great-grandfather, Lord Carnavron, had been by Howard Carter’s side when he first discovered the tomb - was present during the unveiling of the maze.
At a width of over 100 metres and made up of more than a million maize plants, the maze is believed to be the largest in Europe and among the biggest in the world.
The Tutankhamun maze will be open to visitors until September 4th, 2023.
