Travis Scott's Concert Permit Revoked by Musicians Syndicate

Egypt’s Musician Syndicate has revoked the permit that would have enabled Travis Scott to perform at the Pyramids of Giza.

American multi-award-winning rapper, Travis Scott had announced his first-ever performance in Egypt earlier this month. The concert - which was set to take place at the Great Pyramids of Giza - caused a maelstrom on Egyptian social media with calls to boycott the artist due to the controversial nature of his performances allegedly featuring ‘satanic’ symbolism.

“The Musicians Syndicate is part of the fabric of this beloved country - working on its stability and security and refusing to tamper with its societal values, including Egyptian and Arab customs and traditions,” read a statement released by the Musicians Syndicate in the early hours of this morning. “After extrapolating and surveying the opinions of people on social media, as well as researching further about the artist, the Syndicate found pictures and documented information about the strange performance rituals of this artist, all of which run contrary to our societal values and traditions.” [This is a translated version of the original Arabic statement.]
