UAE Schools Outline Safety Plans Ahead of Proposed Reopening

Private school groups across the UAE have outlined multi-layered safety plans as they seek approval to reopen selected campuses ahead of April 3rd, with student safety set as the primary condition for any return to in-person learning.
Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed that schools must submit formal reopening requests with clear justification, which are then reviewed by the Ministry of Education on a case-by-case basis.
Several operators have limited their proposals to specific student groups, particularly those preparing for upcoming examinations. Leams Education has applied to reopen for exam cohorts across its campuses in Dubai as British curriculum board exams begin in April. The group said its plans include lockdown procedures, designated indoor safe zones, controlled evacuation protocols and regular drills, alongside transport contingencies that keep students on campus until safe departure is confirmed.
Taaleem stated that its emergency preparedness procedures are regularly reviewed and include protocols for rapid response, communication with families and the ability to transition back to distance learning if required.
At GEMS Education, reopening proposals are limited to selected schools and year groups following internal risk assessments covering campus location, infrastructure and perimeter safety. The group said emergency response plans have been updated to reflect current risk conditions.
Woodlem Education said it has not yet applied for early reopening but remains prepared to resume on-site learning in line with regulatory guidance, with online learning continuing until April 3rd.
Across the sector, schools have emphasised continuity planning, including hybrid learning options for families preferring remote education, and contingency measures to manage potential disruptions.
