UN Allocates USD 6 Million to Support Sudanese Refugees in Egypt
This is the UN’s second allocation for Sudanese refugees in Egypt, following USD 5 million provided in May 2023 to assist 320,000 people with critical aid.
The UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has allocated USD 6 million to support Sudanese refugees in Egypt.
This funding will provide emergency food, cash assistance, water, sanitation, hygiene services and protection, as Egypt currently hosts an estimated 1.2 million Sudanese refugees. This makes Egypt the largest recipient of Sudanese refugees globally.
“As the number of refugees continues to rise daily and winter approaches, their needs are increasing,” said Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt. “These CERF funds will provide additional assistance and protection to newly arrived refugees, addressing both their immediate and long-term needs.”
This marks CERF’s second allocation for Sudanese refugees in Egypt, following USD 5 million provided in May 2023 to assist 320,000 people with critical aid.
