US Halts Visa Processing for 75 Countries Including Egypt

According to a Fox News report, the U.S. Department of State has halted all visa issuance procedures for 75 countries, including Egypt, Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Thailand and Yemen.

The decision was made to ‘tighten the scrutiny of applicants for immigration’.

The report states that consular officers have been instructed to deny visa applications based on existing laws until screening and vetting procedures are reassessed. The decision is set to take effect on January 21st and will remain in place indefinitely until the State Department completes a comprehensive review of visa‑issuance procedures.

The U.S Department of State and U.S Embassy in Cairo have so far not made any official statements regarding the suspension.
