Uber to Launch Self-Driving Cars in Abu Dhabi

Uber is set to bring self-driving vehicles to Abu Dhabi through its new partnership with China's WeRide. The ride-hailing giant will offer commuters the option to select WeRide’s self-driving robotaxis directly from the Uber app. While details on the number of vehicles to be deployed in Abu Dhabi have not yet been disclosed, the new service is expected to roll out later in 2024.

This development follows a major milestone for WeRide in 2023, when the company received the UAE's first national autonomous driving license. This approval marked the first of its kind in both the Middle East and globally, allowing WeRide to conduct road testing and operate autonomous vehicles on UAE roads.
