Luda's Protein Ice Cream Whips Up Protein-Packed Sweet Treats
Inspired by his travels to the US, Founder Khaled Waleed brought the concept of fitness-focussed flavour back to Egypt.
We’re all familiar with the great American Dream, but bringing that dream back to Egypt to start a local brand is particularly inspiring in this era of rapid entrepreneurial growth within the country. That's precisely the story behind Luda’s, a homemade protein ice cream brand founded by fitness enthusiast Khaled Waleed after discovering the diverse varieties of nutrient-rich protein ice cream available in the United States.
“The idea of Luda’s was born from my travels to the US,” Khaled Waleed, founder of Luda’s, told SceneEats. “There, I saw the huge variety of protein ice creams on offer and decided to bring the concept to Egypt.”
Waleed's plan for his protein ice cream recipes was not driven by entrepreneurial ambition, but by a desire to offer the best possible flavours without compromising fitness goals. “Originally, the plan was to upload my ice cream recipe on social media, but when it turned out so good, I thought to myself, ‘I can make something of this,’” Waleed explained.
Flash forward a year since Waleed began mixing his decadent ice cream flavors in his home kitchen, and Luda’s now offers four low-calorie, high-protein choices: Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, Buttery Biscuit, and Chocolate Brownie, all of which have at least 20 grams of protein per tub.
“At my core, I’m a fitness enthusiast, but why should I have to pass up on sweet cravings, especially when I can build them into my protein goals?” Waleed said. Less than a year into the company’s foundation, Luda’s is clearly resonating with customers.
“Because Luda’s is still a small business, I get people sending me their positive feedback directly, and it’s a huge motivator for me,” Waleed noted. “As a small business owner, it pushes me to make my products even better.”
Waleed also gave us an exclusive peek into Luda’s upcoming new flavour, Strawberry Cream. “The new flavour has a strawberry cream base with buttery biscuit pieces that come together in a creamy cheesecake taste,” he revealed. It sounds pretty tempting from where we’re sitting.
