New Taif Road Phase in Riyadh Set to Handle 200,000 Vehicles Daily

A new phase of the Taif Road Development Project has begun in Riyadh, with road upgrades and a new bridge aimed at increasing the corridor's capacity to around 200,000 vehicles per day.

According to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the project covers a 15-kilometre stretch extending from the Taif Road and Najd Street intersection to the Western Ring Road. Once completed, the corridor will feature four main lanes in each direction, alongside upgraded junctions and new pedestrian bridges designed to improve road safety.

The latest phase includes construction of a 311-metre-long, 36-metre-wide bridge at the intersection of Taif Road and Taibah Street, together with supporting infrastructure intended to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times and accommodate future traffic growth.

To minimise disruption during construction, the RCRC has implemented a traffic management plan in coordination with the relevant authorities. A temporary three-lane diversion in each direction at the Taif Road–Taibah Street intersection came into effect on July 31st, while digital platforms and navigation applications are being updated with real-time information to help motorists plan alternative routes.

According to the commission, the combination of expanded lanes, the new bridge and associated infrastructure is intended to improve traffic efficiency while supporting growing transport demand along one of Riyadh's key road corridors.
