MENA’s Most Soulful Voices to Feature on Dominique Dalcan's New Album

Some of the Arab world’s most prominent female indie stars will soon be featured on a new album titled 'Last Night a Woman Saved My Life' by Beirut-born French electronic music producer and film composer, Dominique Dalcan.

According to a recent announcement by Dalcan - who won the Victoires de la Misique’s electronic category award for his album, ‘Temperance’, in 2018 - the 12-track album will be released one single at a time over the next few months, with the full album to be made available across all music streaming platforms in October. The album will include the likes of Egypt’s Dina El-Wedidi, Tunisia’s Emel Mathlouthi and Algeria’s Souad Massi, alongside Syria’s Lynn Adib, Sudan’s Sulafa Elias , and Morocco’s Maryam Abou Al-Wafa.

The first track - titled ‘Loin de Ma Terre’, meaning ‘Far From My Land’ - was already released on April 27th, and featured the soul-touching vocals of Souad Massi. The song came out with a music video that incorporated recordings and visuals that echoed the song’s melancholic themes of exile and nomadic longing.

The album is set to be an inter-cultural fusion, incorporating a number of acoustic instruments with Middle Eastern origins merged with electronic soundscapes. The album bears the same name as a multi-media art installation that Dalcan held in Paris in 2020 which was inspired by the artist’s personal life story, when his family had to flee Lebanon while he was still a newborn.
