How to Spend a Weekend in Abu Dhabi with the Kids

As the summer draws to a sad, sad close, and the new academic year looms on the horizon, families around the region are searching for travel plans to look forward to and to help them get through the fall blues. And while adventurous travel plans like quad biking across the Egyptian desert and skydiving over Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah may be off the table if the little ones are still, well, little, you can always choose to explore the UAE’s capital city of Abu Dhabi. With a few adrenaline-pumping activities for the adults, and some hours-long-entertaining experiences for the younglings, all the generations will definitely find something to do on this family getaway.

Now, It’s not really a trip with the kids unless the adults come out of it with weary backs and the children come out of it with a lesson. As the region’s first marine life theme park, Yas Seaworld is the perfect place for some educational and entertaining fun. There, you can explore eight themed immersive realms with over 15 interactive experiences and rides, partake in over 100 animal experiences and presentations, and maybe even spot some hammerhead sharks, toucans, walruses and Arctic foxes!

And, since you’ll already be on Yas Island, it’s practically too convenient to head on over to Warner Bros. World, the region’s largest indoor theme park and where you and the kids (mainly you) can fangirl over your favourite DC Superheroes and cartoon characters. Once you’re done snapping a few pictures with Superman, Shaggy and Scooby, you can hop on any one of their 29 rides and, since you’re also there for the little ones, kid-friendly attractions.

But, if your brand of entertainment is less reality-based and more virtual, you can always grab the family, drive over to Al Qana, and spend endless hours competing in eSports tournaments, playing with plasma guns, and connecting with the gaming community at Pixoul Gaming, the Middle East’s first integrated immersive VR and eSports hub.

And again, just out of sheer convenience, grab the family and walk a few steps to reach the region’s largest indoor adventure park – Adrenark – where you’ll find multiplex karting, an inflatable park, a toddler playland, a climbing wall, a net maze, a rope course and much, much more to keep the kids entertained and ensure you, the adults, are also having some good ol’ fun.
