Zawya Cinema to Show Palestinian Film 'Bye Bye Tiberias' February 7th
The film is Palestine’s official submission for 'Best International Feature Film' at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Back by popular demand, Zawya Cinema in Downtown Cairo is set to show critically-acclaimed documentary ‘Bye Bye Tiberias’ by French-Palestinian-Algerian director Lina Soualem, with the first screening on February 7th.
‘Bye Bye Tiberias’ follows a woman named Hiam Abbass as she returns home to her Palestinian village with her young daughter in tow, after pursuing an acting career in France. The documentary then traces the stories of four generations of women and their shared legacy of displacement. Notwithstanding their forcibly-dispersed Palestinian identities in different territories, each woman takes control of her destiny to influence the world around them. Having won Best Documentary at both the 2023 London and Montpellier Mediterranean film festivals, the film is also Palestine’s official submission for 'Best International Feature Film' at the 2024 Academy Awards.
