Egypt Raises Public & Private Sector Wages Starting July 2026

Wages for public and private sector workers are set to increase from July 1st, 2026, as part of expanded social protection measures linked to Egypt’s ongoing economic reform programme.

Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani stated that the Ministry of Finance is currently conducting cost studies in preparation for the increases.

Priority will be given to public sector employees in health, education and state administration. Proposed adjustments for public sector wages will be submitted to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi during Ramadan alongside the draft budget for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, after which discussions will take place with the National Wages Council regarding corresponding increases for private sector workers.

The wage measures are positioned within a wider social protection framework aimed at easing pressure on low- and middle-income households while maintaining macroeconomic stabilisation efforts.

The move comes as Egypt continues to implement reforms under its agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

The IMF Executive Board is scheduled to review Egypt’s fifth and sixth assessments under the USD 8 billion Extended Fund Facility, as well as the first review of the USD 1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Arrangement.

The Fund recently revised its real GDP growth forecast for Egypt to 4.7% for fiscal year 2025/2026 and projects growth of 5.4% in 2026/2027. In parallel, authorities are preparing to roll out a social protection package exceeding EGP 40 billion to support around 15 million families through the end of the current fiscal year. The package will be disbursed in two tranches, one before Ramadan and another ahead of Eid Al-Fitr.

It includes additional allocations for farmers and domestic agricultural production, with the wheat procurement price raised to EGP 2,350 per ardab from EGP 2,200, alongside EGP 4 billion in supplementary support to offset price differentials during the harvest season beginning in April.
