Egypt Will Start Large-Scale Solar Panel Production by 2026
The authority outlined new incentives for green hydrogen, sustainability-linked benefits, and industry workshops on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism taking effect in 2026.
Egypt will begin large-scale solar panel production in early 2026 with a local component rate of up to 90%, said Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones. Several factories are scheduled to start operations in the first quarter of 2026, and he said Egypt is expected to see rapid growth in renewable energy over the next two years. Heiba outlined government measures to stimulate investment in renewables, including a new law that provides incentives for green hydrogen projects and their derivatives. He said the Authority has made “environmental protection” a core criterion for awarding investment incentives across all sectors, with more sustainable projects receiving greater benefits. “For example, manufacturers of electric vehicles receive higher incentives than producers of conventional, fossil-fuel cars,” he explained. Heiba added that the Authority is working with other entities to raise awareness of environmental sustainability in the business community, including organising workshops on the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which will take effect in 2026.
