Grand Mosque Introduces Electric Carts for Elderly & Disabled Visitors
Dedicated pathways and electric carts have been introduced at the Grand Mosque to support elderly worshippers and visitors with disabilities.
Dedicated routes and electric transport services have been introduced at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to support elderly worshippers and visitors with disabilities. According to the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the measures include specially allocated pathways and electric carts designed to facilitate movement to and within the mosque complex.
A total of 37 electric carts are available to transport elderly visitors, with each vehicle able to accommodate up to ten passengers. The carts operate alongside the designated routes to assist visitors who require support moving between entrances, prayer areas and facilities.
The authority stated that the dedicated pathways have been placed in strategic locations to simplify entry and exit while improving movement across different levels of the Grand Mosque. The system forms part of a broader framework of services designed to ensure smooth access during both peak periods and regular days.
Worshippers and Umrah performers have also been encouraged to use the mosque’s spatial guidance guide, which identifies the locations of the dedicated routes, elevators and support services. The guide is intended to help visitors navigate the mosque more easily, particularly when crowd levels increase.
