New Sharjah Exhibition Centre to Become Permanent Home of Book Fair
A purpose-built exhibitions and conferences centre will host the Sharjah International Book Fair at a dedicated site on Emirates Road.
A new exhibitions and conferences centre is set to be built in Sharjah, with the facility designated as the permanent venue for the Sharjah International Book Fair once completed. The project is estimated to cost around USD 136.2 million and is expected to become the long-term home of the annual literary event.
The site for the future centre is located on Emirates Road opposite Sharjah Mosque. Land for the project was purchased for AED 146 million, with construction scheduled to begin immediately. Building works are expected to cost approximately AED 500 million and take around two years to complete.
Alongside the new exhibitions complex, land has also been allocated for the Sharjah International Book Fair’s future headquarters, consolidating the fair’s operations within the same site. Once the facility is completed, the book fair will relocate from its current home at Expo Centre Sharjah, where it has been hosted for many years.
The Sharjah International Book Fair is among the largest book fairs globally and is a major fixture in the international publishing calendar. The new centre is intended to provide a purpose-built venue capable of supporting the scale of the event while also hosting exhibitions, conferences, and large-scale cultural and commercial gatherings throughout the year.
