Takaful & Karama Assistance Expands to 4.7 Million Families in 2025
Egypt’s social protection programme expands to support 4.7 million families as government funding reaches EGP 635 billion.

The Egyptian government is expanding the Takaful and Karama programme to reach 4.7 million families in 2025, an increase from 1.7 million families in 2014. The initiative, which provides direct financial assistance to vulnerable households, aims to mitigate the impact of economic challenges on low-income communities.
With social protection funding increasing to EGP 635 billion in 2024—compared to EGP 93 billion in 2008 and EGP 228 billion in 2014—the programme now spans multiple sectors, including health insurance, housing and direct cash transfers.
As part of ongoing efforts to integrate social insurance with cash assistance, recipients are being encouraged to explore employment opportunities without risking the loss of financial aid. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to balance economic support with long-term financial stability for low-income families.
