Unified Services Card for Digital Transactions Launched in Egypt
A new card will simplify access to government services with enhanced security.
A unified government services card has been launched by the Ministries of Supply and Communications, the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, and other governmental entities, aiming to streamline access to essential services while enhancing security.
The card is designed to facilitate a range of services. It allows for the disbursement of food support, including bread and commodities, and provides access to comprehensive health insurance services, featuring fingerprint-based identity verification. Additionally, the card supports digital payments through point-of-sale machines and enables ATM cash withdrawals via the National Postal Authority.
To ensure smooth distribution, heads of households will receive a text message with details about where to collect the card. Family members aged 16 and above must present their national ID and registered mobile number when collecting the card. The cards must be picked up within one month from designated delivery centres, or within an additional month from the General Diwan of Port Said Governorate. Uncollected cards will be destroyed after this period.
The unified card integrates both supply and health services, with plans for future extensions to include pension disbursements, public transportation payments and banking transactions. It is equipped with advanced data protection technologies to prevent hacking and forgery and features a smart fingerprint to ensure that services are provided to eligible recipients.
A key aspect of the card’s functionality is its requirement for users to open a personal account with the Egyptian Post Authority, promoting financial inclusion and contributing to Egypt’s Vision 2030.
