Moving Still Reimagines Arabic Disco in Vol 2 of 'Ouddy Bangers'
The EP honours the essence of the original compositions while transforming them for new audiences.
Irish-Arab producer Moving Still returns with ‘Ouddy Bangers Vol. 2’, an EP that revisits the vibrant sounds of Arabic disco and pop through a modern club-ready lens. This release builds on the debut ‘Ouddy Bangers’ project, where Moving Still blends familiar Arabic classics and rare deep cuts into contemporary dance floor anthems. His approach honours the essence of the original compositions while transforming them for new audiences.
On the EP’s A-side, Moving Still highlights ‘Feen’ by the Lebanese artist Luna Badran, known for her album ‘Sayyadah’. The rework draws on Badran’s mysterious allure and absence from the music scene, delivering a fresh take featuring a percussive, DJ-friendly intro, paired with a gated snare and lush Roland JX-3P synth sounds. This track is a tribute to her legacy while adding an unmistakable pulse for the dance floor.
The B-side dives into Moving Still’s childhood influences, beginning with a reimagining of ‘Yallah’, a popular hit by Egyptian singer Talaat Zein. Here, he fuses a syncopated acid bassline with traditional dabke claps, revitalising the catchy original with an infectious beat for a new era. The EP’s final track, ‘Rou7 Salehha’, originally by Moroccan Raï singer Cheb Rizki, caps off with an energetic rave twist, inspired by Retro Cassette’s Boiler Room debut, ensuring an electrifying close to the record.
