Through his fusion of EDM, shaabi, downtempo, Lo-Fi and hip-hop, Egyptian producer El Waili has developed a sound that is immediately identifiable, characterized by hypnotic chord progressions, bright melodies and speaker-rattling bass sounds, connecting with alternative music fans and club connoisseurs alike.

In this XP Conversation, El Waili gives us a glimpse into his beginnings in music, and how he has built a brand around his enigmatic persona and signature sound. As one of the region’s most in-demand producers, El Waili has also gone on to work extensively in scoring for film and television, and in this interview, he tells us how some of his earliest hits have resurfaced through their use as the opening credit music for TV shows, extending the lifespan of the tracks that have launched him to notoriety.
