2.1 Million Trees to Be Planted Across Madinah
The Green City Initiative incorporates digital tools such as smart tree tagging to monitor growth and health.

The Madinah Municipality has launched the Green City Initiative to plant 2.1 million trees across Madinah to expand green spaces and promote environmental sustainability.
The programme aims to increase vegetation cover, reduce carbon emissions, lower temperatures, and improve the urban landscape, while also optimising natural resource use and enhancing residents’ well-being.
Aligned with the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030, the project incorporates digital tools such as smart tree tagging to monitor growth and health. Planting will be expanded along roads, in public parks, and within neighbourhoods. The initiative also encourages community participation through environmental volunteering, with a stated focus on strengthening the city’s leadership in urban greening.
The plan further seeks to enrich Madinah’s tourism experience and position the city as a model for sustainable green urban development, balancing its Islamic heritage with contemporary sustainability objectives.
