Egypt will begin manufacturing COVID-19 vaccines by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac in June 2021. Through a partnership between Sinovac and Egyptian pharmaceutical company Vacsera, Egypt is aiming to produce 60 million doses in total. The initial batch will produce two million doses of the Sinovac vaccine, and will be available for administration by the end of June.
Egypt launched its vaccination campaign in January 2021, starting with medical teams at quarantine hospitals and slowly rolling out to include all other citizens. To accommodate the growing availability of the vaccines, Egypt increased the number of COVID-19 vaccine centres to 360 earlier this May.
