Mo Salah Among Star-Studded Guest Line-Up at UK's Earthshot Awards
Salah will present awards along with Kate Williams, Emma Thompson, Emma Watson and David Oyelowo.
Egyptian football star, Mohamed Salah, has been invited by Prince William to attend the first-of-its-kind Earthshot Prize Awards in London on October 17th. The global environmental award selects five winners from a pool of more than 750 nominations to receive GBP 1 million to scale environmental solutions. Salah is the only football player invited to attend the global ceremony, a testament to his position as a role model for Arabs and Muslims across the world.
Geared at addressing the increasing threat of climate change, the Earthshot Prize Awards had garnered international attention with a star-studded entourage of presenters including Salah, Kate William, Emma Thompson, Emma Watson and David Oyelowo. The prize takes inspiration from U.S President John F Kennedy’s Moonshot program, which resulted in the US Apollo lunar launches and the first moon landing in 1969.
The five nominees were chosen by an equally venerable group of individuals, notably Prince William, Queen Rania of Jordan, singer Shakira, actress Cate Blanchett, Brazilian football legend Dani Alves, and Costa Rican diplomat Christiana Figueres.
To inaugurate the first edition of the Earthshot Prize Awards and celebrate the strides being made to mitigate the effects of climate change, a glitzy lineup of world renowned international artists will perform including Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, KSI and Coldplay— who will have a set powered by the energy of 60 cyclists.
The award ceremony will take place at the Alexandra Palace in London and will be broadcasted on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and globally on Discovery's Facebook page.
