Massive Mural Celebrates Rural Heritage in Qena
The story of Egypt’s rural life has been captured with a massive mural in Qena, crystallising the most definitive aspects of local culture.
Rural life has been one of the most enduring elements of Egyptian culture, virtually unchanged throughout the millennia as farmers and families maintain ancient traditions, techniques and knowledge handed down from antiquity. Now the story of Egypt’s rural life has been captured with a massive mural in Qena, crystallising the most definitive aspects of local culture.
The new walkway features figures that recreate everyday life in rural Qena all along the walls, from the bakers waiting as their bread rises in a stone oven, to the men artfully performing on the rebab, a traditional string instrument.
Stretching out for 60 metres, the mural was realised by the Qena Youth Union and a collection of local Qena artists, alongside the Dar Al Aqar For Real Estate Marketing firm.
