Qalyubia's Historic Mohamed Ali Bridge to Receive EGP 1.6 Million Renovation
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities's EGP 1.6 million project aims to turn back the clock on the bridge, replacing damaged stone and missing tiles, and fortifying the towers and antique arches that bookend it.
Restoration work has begun on the Mohamed Ali Bridge in Qalyubia. Originally built in 1824 by its namesake as part of his mission to modernise the nation, the formidable stone bridge had endured the ravages of time, nature, and even a couple of explosions in 2015.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities's EGP 1.6 million project aims to turn back the clock on the bridge, replacing damaged stone and missing tiles, and fortifying the towers and antique arches that bookend it. They will also update the bridge as necessary, developing its lighting system and replacing damaged wires.
